In This Season...
A poem for Hanukkah and Advent
But at midmight there was a cry, 'The Bridegroom is here! Go out and meet him.'
Matt: 25:6 Jerusalem Bible
Looking Forward
Wisdom does not court shadow,
nor marled truths of its inhabitants
who lose their loss in philosophy,
who scent death at eventide
when moons subside
and noons are vanished dreams
offering no transfiguration
whose lantern shines the way.
They consume your oxygen,
bleed your blood and crack the bone's resolve,
their insight glimpsed in mottled mirrors,
too arbitrary the unveiled sun,
searching the labyrinthine heart
where oil-starved lamps lay broken
in the dust of faded, fond illusion,
unfit for the wedding feast.

There always were two ways to live in a world that is often dark and full of tears. We can curse the darkness or we can light a light, and as the Chassidim say, a little light drives out much darkness
Rabbi Jonathan Sacks
For God will lead Israel with joy,
in the light of his glory,
with the mercy and righteousness that come from him.
Baruch 5:9
